Caring for Caregivers Fund

If you have ever known someone that has been diagnosed with any of the above conditions, you will understand the demands placed on their loved ones, both physically and emotionally, to help the survivor continue their fight.

As a society we always focus on the individual that is enduring the medical condition, but we forget about the people that are supporting them along the way. Empowering Hope was established to be able to recognize the caregivers who support these individuals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We want to provide these caregivers with an all expenses paid trip to rest, recharge and recover so they can come back and help their loved ones continue on their recovery journey.

Our Recipients

Meet the Harris's!

  Janet, Benjamin, Spencer and Tim

Janet was a flight nurse for AHN for over 20 years and Tim worked as an ER Trauma Nurse at AGH for over 20 years. Tragically in September of 2021, they were hit head on by another vehicle that crossed into their lane. They both sustained countless injuries. The worst of which was Janet's brain injury. Being life long trauma nurses, they knew they had a long and difficulty road ahead of them. However, they were up for the challenge. Both Tim and Janet spent time in different rehab facilities before coming home. Tim made it home by Christmas Eve and Janet returned home on Valentines Day 2022. After five months, the family was finally back together again!

Their oldest son Benjamin took a year off from the Navy to come and help take care of his parents. Spencer made it a priority to come home as much as possible during what was his last year studying at IUP. Tim immediately assumed the role as the primary caregiver for his 'Princess',  Janet. The love that Tim and Janet have for each other is one of the purest love's we have ever witnessed!

Janet wanted to send 'her boys' away on a trip as a thank you for all that they have given up for her and helped her with over the past year. Janet helped plan a boys weekend to Washington, D.C. , a place they had always wanted to go together.  Tim, Benjamin and Spencer spent the weekend away relaxing, eating great food, visiting museums and monuments and most important, enjoying each other's company.

Janet and Kelsey made sure to soak up the 'girls weekend' and spent the weekend getting their nails done, going to the movies, shopping, and eating ALL of the Pizza, Popcorn, Chick-Fil-A and chocolate cake they could find!
